“Photography is the art of frozen time… the ability to store emotion and feelings within a frame.”
“I can take good pictures on my phone, why should I pay you to do it?”
In this digital age where everyone has digital cameras, scanners and home “photo printers” this is a question I get asked a lot.The classic analogy for answering this question is simple. You could go to a salon and have your hair cut and styled by a professional at a professional price, or you could buy a pair of cheap scissors and cut your own hair. Bet you’d rather a professional did it.
And that’s what you’re paying for when you hire a professional photographer. You’re not just paying for them to take a photo. You’re paying for their expertise and experience, their technical ability, their artistic eye, to bring the high-end equipment they have invested in and the hours of professional post processing and image editing.
“Why do the photos need professional editing when the filters on Instagram are perfect”
Whilst many phone apps will apply filters to add a certain feel to a phone photo it’s really only a quick visual change. Professional post processing of images can take a long time with a 9 hour wedding shoot usually taking on average 2-3 days of full-time editing. This will often involve colour correcting, exposure and white balancing, skin touch ups, adjusting the tone, clarity and contrast as well cropping for proper composition and preparing the images for printing. When the average wedding photographer takes around 2000+ images per wedding that soon adds up.
“Why can’t I just get your photos printed myself?”
Quite simply you can if you want. I understand some people prefer to do this which is why every photography package I offer either includes or has the option to have digital copies of all the photos. But when you order prints and wedding albums through me you’re getting access to some of the best print companies in the industry who only work directly with professional photographers. Their work is always amazing and they only use the best materials for printing your images and creating your wedding album. They are the only companies I will trust with such an important job.
“Who do you use for your printing?”
For my image printing, I use the award winning Loxely Colour who have over 30 years experience providing the highest quality services to professional photographers. Their service is second to none and you are able to order prints from my online proof galleries and have them delivered to your home directly from them. For my high-end wedding albums, I use nothing but the stunning fine art albums produced by the amazing Folio Albums. They really do produce stunning wedding albums and are the perfect accompaniment to the images of your special day.
My style is Documentary wedding photography and is also known as photo-journalistic (or simply journalistic) or reportage wedding photography. If you want unobtrusive and authentic photography, then this is the wedding photography style for you. My aim is to blend in with the guests and capture the real moments as they unfold. There are no predetermined poses as all photos are taken in a candid and spontaneous way. A photojournalist photographer is able to tell a story from the shots he takes by capturing priceless and emotional moments.
If you are one who hates posing for pictures, then this style of wedding photography will favour you greatly as you will only be required to enjoy the moment and not asked to pull off intricate poses on the big day.
This is entirely up to you.
The pre-wedding consultation is a great way to get to meet each other prior to the wedding, to discuss what your hopes are for the photography on the day and for me to gather as much information as I need to make sure I produce the wedding images you’re hoping for.
I will usually suggest meeting at the venue, if you have one chosen, so we can discuss the plans and should we have any questions about the venue we can get them answered straight away. It’s also a good opportunity for me to introduce myself to the venue’s wedding planner and to hand over any documentation they may require such as insurance documents.
Alternatively, you are always welcome to come to my studio in Leicester city centre which offers free parking and unlimited tea and biscuits.
I have full public liability and indemnity insurance provided by the leading multimedia insurance company, Aaduki. All documentation can be provided on request.
Most wedding venues will insist that all your suppliers are fully insured and I highly recommend you check this with all photographers you speak to.
Of course, I am happy to work anywhere in the UK and will even travel abroad if you need me to.
If you’re thinking of booking me for a wedding outside of Leicestershire please get in touch first and we can discuss things like travel expenses in more detail. I am very transparent with my additional expenses and only ask for the necessary costs to be covered.
